hi there hope all is well.
just a small update my companie p/h building company uk limited has just gone under
the strain of keeping it going and some very bad sub-contractors cost us a lot of work and time of finding other contractors.
we could not keep going anymore so had a take to accountant and shut up shop
lost future contracts for the coming years upto 2012 but some you win and some you lose.
we will just sit back for a little then start again with no emplyment for any i say any sub-contractors
has any one had a problem with any bad sub-contractors
Hi Pete,
Thats really bad mate its tough out there but things are starting to improve. We also employ mostly subcontractors, but they are all good lads, we always tell them at the start as to what we expect of them and generally we get what we ask for. The problem is there is no profit in the jobs for us to employ on a PAYE basis and to pay for holidays and Employers NI contributions, let alone having to comply with Health & safety issues.
We also act as subcontractors ourselves for other builders and contractors, so we can see both sides of the coin, the trouble is the subbies always get bashed, mostly on cost, and some of them do work for next to nothing, so its hardly any wonder that things go wrong, but then again some of them should never be in business in the first place considering the rubbish they produce ! For some time now we have been issuing our subbies with guidelines with regard to work quality and if they dont comply they dont get paid ! It seems to work for us.
Good luck for the future
